ERASE CHARACTER Erases the character that the cursor is on. Key: EDT keypad WPS keypad DECwindows func key ------------------------------------------------------- COMMA PF4 SHIFT/<X] Steps: 1. Put the cursor on the character you want to erase. 2. Use ERASE CHARACTER (see key list above). Usage notes: o ERASE CHARACTER depends on the mode of the buffer (shown in the status line). In insert mode, it erases the character, making text to the right move left. In overstrike mode, it replaces the character with a space. To change the mode of the buffer, press CTRL/A (see help on CHANGE MODE). o At the end of a line---regardless of the mode---ERASE CHARACTER erases only the line break (carriage return), making the next line (if any) move up. This is useful to join paragraphs for FILL commands. o To put back the erased character, use RESTORE CHARACTER (with the EDT keypad, press GOLD-COMMA), which is also mode-sensitive.
