Backing up data rather than copying it
BACKUP Manager stores files and directories in a single special file
called a save set. BACKUP Manager also records in the save set the
date and time and other information about the files that are backed
up.
If you need to protect only a few files, you might find it easier for
you to simply copy those files to another disk and use the copy of
the files in the event of a problem. However, BACKUP Manager is a
more efficient solution if you need to protect many files, especially
related files, and if you need to store these files offline. (Many
computer centers store backup media off the local site in case of
site disaster. This strategy preserves vital information and
operations can continue with little interruption even in the event of
catastrophic events.)
