    Broken     The DECdns clerk has a fatal error condition.
    Initial    The DECdns clerk is in the process of initializing.
    Off        The DECdns clerk is not available.
    On         The DECdns clerk is running and available.
    Shut       The DECdns clerk is in the process of an orderly
               shutdown.
