The formula for calculating the number of CPU cores in the host running ALPHA7 in a vtAlpha virtual machine is:

(the total amount of active Alpha CPU's in ALPHA7 * 1.5)

With the found OpenVMS configuration: (7 * 1.5) = 11

The formula for calculating the host memory needed for a host running ALPHA7 in a vtAlpha virtual machine is:

(the total amount of memory in ALPHA7 * 1.25) + (total number of disks * 125) + (number of tapeunits * 100) + 1024 MB

With the found OpenVMS configuration: (5120 * 1.25) + (3 * 125) + (0 * 100) + 1024 = 7799 MB

Disclaimer:

The value of memory and number of CPUs is the minimum value needed
and also depends on the use of the emulator.
These values are often not sufficient on a heavily used emulator.

SYSGEN parameter SMP_SANITY_CNT

When running OpenVMS in an emulator and the emulated server is configured with more
than one CPU it is recommened to increase the value of the system parameter SMP_SANITY_CNT
to at least 3000.

Current value for SMP_SANITY_CNT:	300
Advised value for SMP_SANITY_CNT:	3000

When running on multiprocessor configurations, OpenVMS performs checks to ensure that all
processors are functioning and that there are no synchronization deadlocks. If abnormal
conditions are detected, the system will crash with a CPUSANITY or CPUSPINWAIT.
