  3.1 Is an OpenVMS Galaxy for You?

  For companies looking to improve their ability to manage
  unpredictable, variable, or growing IT workloads, OpenVMS
  Galaxy technology provides the most flexible way to dy-
  namically reconfigure and manage system resources. An
  integrated hardware and software solution, OpenVMS Galaxy
  allows system managers to perform tasks such as reassigning
  individual CPUs through a simple drag and drop procedure.

  An OpenVMS Galaxy computing environment is ideal for
  high-availability applications, such as:

  *   Database servers

  *   Transaction processing systems

  *   Data Warehousing

  *   Data Mining

  *   Internet servers

  Also, point out some examples of when an OpenVMS Galaxy
  is NOT the answer. For example: single stream non-

  threaded computation, situations where the individual CPUs
  must be physically separate to be near other equipment, such
  as for process control. Perhaps just say that if traditional

  SMP would not work at all then OpenVMS Galaxy is not the
  answer.

  3.1.1 Why a Galaxy is a Good Business Choice

  To be supplied: Info about mixed versions and rolling
  upgrades.

  An OpenVMS Galaxy computing environment is a natu-
  ral evolution for current OpenVMS users with clusters or
  multiple sparsely configured systems

  An OpenVMS Galaxy is attractive for growing organizations
  with varying workloads-predictable or unpredictable

  3.1.2 Things to Consider If You Want to Create a Galaxy

  This section needs to be developed.

  When you plan to create an OpenVMS Galaxy, you need to
  consider the following:

  *   Have enough CPUs?

  *   Have enough memory?

      Enough I/O adapters?

  * How to configure I/O adapters?

  * How to configure systems disks?
