1.4 Possible Problem Upgrading Firmware on AlphaServer
       4100 Systems for V7.2-EFT3

If you are using an AlphaServer 4100 system to field test
OpenVMS Galaxy or Version 7.2-EFT3, you should be aware
of a possible problem with upgrading the firmware.

When upgrading from any pre-V5.2 firmware to the AS4_
G52-59 firmware file, the system may hang or output a
dump of the "Active Call Frames".

If this happens, do the following:

  1. Power-cycle the system.

  2. Upgrade to Alpha Systems Firmware Update Version 5.2
in the Version 7.2-EFT3 CD-ROM kit.

  3. Then upgrade from Alpha Systems Firmware Update
      Version 5.2 to AS4_G52-59.

Note that the AS4_G52-59 firmware file is in the

      OpenVMS Galaxy firmware kit (GALAXY_FIRM_
072.KIT) on the OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.2-EFT3
      CD-ROM 2.

If you have any questions with this procedure, please get in
touch with your V7.2-EFT3 engineering directed field test
site contact. The problem will be corrected in the final release
  of OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.2.
