  Overview of DECsound

DECsound is a software application that you can use to
record audio messages, which you can mail to other users or
  include in documents.

DECsound functions are similar to those of a tape recorder:

you can play, record, fast-forward, and rewind recordings.
You can also edit your recordings using the on-screen
  waveform display.

With DECsound, you record messages using a microphone,
which you connect to your workstation. You can play back
messages on your workstation's built-in speaker or on
headphones connected to your workstation. You can also
use a headset that combines a microphone and headphones.

You can mail DECsound files using DECwindows ~ Mail.
You can customize DECwindows Mail to use DECsound as
the mail editor so that when you create a mail message,
DECsound starts up automatically. After you make
the recording and exit from DECsound, you can use

DECwindows Mail to mail the recording.

You can annotate DECwrite ~ documents by creating
LiveLink ~ connections to DECsound files. For example, you
can annotate illustrations by inserting verbal descriptions of
their complex parts. If you update a recording, the document
will automatically include the new recording.

You can perform basic editing tasks on your recordings.

For example, you can use cut-and-paste on a DECsound
recording in the same way as you would use them on a
section of text. For more information about using DECsound,
